Atlanta, GA – A federal appeals panel has cleared the way for Georgia to appeal a judge's ruling that could restrict metro Atlanta from its main water supply.
The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta concluded Wednesday that the judge's ruling in July can be appealed.
U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson's ruling found that Georgia has little legal rights to the massive north Georgia reservoir that supplies most of metro Atlanta's more than 3 million residents with water.
The judge gave Georgia, Alabama and Florida three years to reach an accord or risk cutting Georgia off from most of its supply.
