Marion, AL – The Alabama Women's Hall of Fame will induct two pioneers on March 4 at Judson College in Marion.
The Hall of Fame announced Monday that one of the inductees will be Margaret Charles Smith of Eutaw. She was a midwife who delivered more than 3,500 babies in west Alabama. She was 75 years old when she delivered her last baby.
The other inductee will be Mary Ivy Burks of Birmingham. She worked to establish the Sipsey Wilderness Area in the Bankhead National Forest when many believed the Wilderness Act should apply only to the western part of the country.
