Gov. Riley Says VictoryLand Changes Show Illegality

Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley says Milton McGregor's decision to close VictoryLand's casino and update the computers is proof the gambling machines were operating illegally.

VictoryLand shut down its 6,000 machines Monday night. VictoryLand attorney Mark White said Tuesday the computer upgrades are not related to electronic bingo. But he also says the closure keeps the Governor's Task Force on Illegal Gambling from raiding the casino without obtaining a search warrant first.

Riley said Tuesday he's not concerned that the leader of his gambling task force, John Tyson, received $100,000 in campaign contributions from McGregor in 2006. He said it shows Tyson can't be bought.
