Montgomery, AL – Alabama Gov. Bob Riley says he decided to crack down on gambling machines because some prosecutors were unwilling to enforce gambling laws.
Riley said Wednesday he had a choice to make when the attorney general and some local officials were unwilling to act and that's why he created the Task Force on Illegal Gambling.
Riley made the comments shortly before leaving for Washington to join other governors in a meeting with President Obama. A short while later, more than 250 people rallied on the Capitol steps outside his office to support three closed gambling halls - Country Crossing, VictoryLand and White Hall Entertainment Center.
They sang ``We Shall Overcome'' and called on the Legislature to pass a constitutional amendment that would protect existing casinos.
