Florence, AL – Schoolchildren and some workers in northwest Alabama are getting a day off because of the threat of winter weather.
Administrators shut down classes Monday in Lauderdale and Colbert counties because of the possibility that snow and sleet could make travel dangerous.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning that said accumulations of as much as 4 inches were possible in the northwest corner of the state. Forecasters said accumulations of 2 inches could occur north of a line from Cherokee to Rogersville.
Afternoon high temperatures were predicted to reach near 50 degrees, but it was still freezing by midmorning.
