Ala. Senate Votes To Outlaw Human Trafficking

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Senate has agreed that human trafficking should be a crime in Alabama, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

The Senate voted 29-0 Tuesday for a bill by Democratic Sen. Wendell Mitchell of Luverne. Mitchell, a former law school dean, said he wrote the legislation after learning Alabama had no law against using coercion or deception to force a person to perform labor or sex acts.

His bill now goes to the House for consideration.
