Keller Statue Embarks on Alabama Tour

By Associated Press

Birmingham, AL – A statue of Helen Keller matching the one on display in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center is now touring Alabama.

Leaders of the Helen Keller Foundation for Research and Education and the Helen Keller Birthplace Foundation say the tour is to raise awareness of Keller and the foundations that carry on her work to end preventable blindness and deafness.

The statue will be at the Huntsville Museum of Art through March. It goes to the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind the first week in April, then the Birmingham Museum of Art from mid-April through May. Ivy Green, Keller's birthplace in Tuscumbia, will display the statue in June and July.

Next up is the Mobile Museum of Art in August and September, the Montgomery Museum of Art in October and November, and then the state Capitol in December.
