Mobile, AL – Three Alabama coastal advocacy groups have joined together to lead a volunteer effort to fight an oil spill threatening the state's shoreline and marine life.
Mobile Baykeeper announced Monday that it is partnering with the Alabama Coastal Foundation and the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program to organize a voluteer response, including rapid deployment to clean up oil hitting Alabama's beaches and shores.
Casi Callaway, executive director of Mobile Baykeeper, said they have received thousands of volunteer calls from around the country offering help with the cleanup.
She said no plan now exists to use these volunteers despite requests to BP and the government. She said the three groups will move forward with their own cleanup project.
