Montgomery, AL – A new political group has canceled $1 million of television advertising time for the last week of Alabama's primary election.
An ad agency representing the New Sons of Liberty notified TV stations by e-mail Thursday that the ad wasn't ready to start airing and the whole campaign was being canceled. Now TV stations are scrambling to sell the ad time.
The New Sons of Liberty was organized April 29 in Washington. Its website encourged viewers to contact several gubernatorial candidates about the gambling issue. Little else is known about the group.
Democratic candidate for governor Ron Sparks says he believes gambling interests in other states were trying to use the group to oppose the expansion of gambling and the creation of a state lottery in Alabama.
