Ala. Power Prepares For Hurricane Season

Birmingham, AL – The state's largest electric utility, Alabama Power Co., is conducting a storm drill to prepare for hurricane season.

Alabama Power's manager for distribution planning, Pam Boyd, said the state has been fortunate not to have a major hurricane since 2005, but the utility wants to make sure everyone is prepared for one.

Boyd said the drill simulates a hurricane moving northward through the mouth of Mobile Bay. The drill focuses on logistics, including communications, the movement of personnel and equipment, and construction of temporary staging areas for housing and food.

The drill runs through Wednesday.
