Montgomery, AL – A multi million-dollar deal to sell Bryce Hospital to the University of Alabama is closer to completion.
The Department of Mental Health and Retardation's advisory board of trustees Tuesday recommended selling Bryce Hospital property to the university for a negotiated price of $77.75 million.
Once university and state officials complete the Bryce Hospital sale agreement this week, it will give the university growing room and psychiatric patients a modern treatment hospital in Tuscaloosa.
The historic sale is slated to be signed Thursday.
The deal would call for a new psychiatric hospital. About 100 current, eligible Bryce patients will be moved into community treatment settings beginning June 1.
