Ala. Secretary of State: Voter Turnout Expected to be in 35%-38% Range

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's chief election official, Secretary of State Beth Chapman, is expecting 35 percent to 38 percent of Alabama's registered voters to turn out for Tuesday's election.

That would be in line with the turnout for the 2002 and 2006 gubernatorial primaries.

Tuesday's primary will be different from those two because it falls the day after Memorial Day instead of a week after the holiday.

Chapman said voter turnout may be hurt by that, but hot races in both parties for governor and attorney general should encourage voters to get to the polls.
