Montgomery, AL – Alabama Gov. Bob Riley says there has been a significant increase in the amount of boom protecting Alabama's beaches and environmentally sensitive areas from the oil spill.
Riley had complained to President Barack Obama and National Incident Commander Adm. Thad Allen about boom being removed from protecting Alabama coastline for use in other states.
Since meeting with the president, Riley said the amount of boom deployed to Alabama has increased from 329,100 feet to 436,900 feet.
Riley thanked Obama for intervening. He said he told the president that all the Gulf states have ``precious'' coastline and no state should be given preference over another.
