Ala. Candidate Gives Notes Promising School Work

Montgomery, AL – Republican state Rep. Gerald Allen is handing out promissory notes for future school projects in the state Senate district that he hopes to represent in west Alabama.

Allen is seeking to defeat Democratic incumbent Sen. Phil Poole in Senate District 21 in Tuscaloosa, Hale and Pickens counties.

The handwritten notes were given to school officials at public events like football games. Allen said the notes represent a commitment on his part to secure the money from a commission that issues bonds for school construction.

Poole called the notes ``bogus IOUs'' and questioned Allen handing them out to schools that are outside the House district he currently represents.
