N. Ala. PACs In Bribery Case Once Run By Raby

Montgomery, AL – Four north Alabama political action committees allegedly used to route $200,000 from a Dothan casino owner to a state senator were once operated by 5th Congressional District candidate Steve Raby.

The indictment unsealed Monday in a statehouse bribery probe says the owner of the Country Crossing casino in Dothan, Ronnie Gilley, sent four checks for $50,000 each to four separate PACS in north Alabama.

Campaign finance records maintained by the Alabama Secretary of State's office show that Gilley made contributions of $50,000 each to four PACS that had been operated by Raby before he began his run for Congress in February. Raby said he has never met Gilley and wasn't involved in the PAC operations, which are now handled by his nephew, W. Bryant Raby.
