Montgomery, AL – Carol Steckel is leaving her post as commissioner of Alabama's Medicaid agency to head an effort to revamp health care programs in Louisiana.
Steckel has served as Medicaid commissioner under Alabama Gov. Bob Riley since 2003. She previously headed up Alabama's Medicaid program for four years during the administration of former Gov. Guy Hunt.
Riley said Monday that Steckel would be leaving her Cabinet post Nov. 15 to become director of Health Care Reform for the state of Louisiana. Riley leaves office in January.
Steckel is the president of the National Association of Medicaid Directors.
