Judge: Restrictions On Lobbyist Fair In Ala. Case

Montgomery, AL – A judge has refused to ease restrictions on a lobbyist who was ordered to record all of his conversations with other lobbyists and elected officials while free on bond in the Alabama bingo bribery case.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Terry Moorer said Montgomery lobbyist Tom Coker is presumed innocent but the indictment establishes ``probable cause'' and the restrictions on his release are appropriate.

The decision came after an attorney for Coker argued that it creates an undue burden to require Coker to tape record the conversations. Coker was among 11 people accused of conspiring to buy and sell votes in the Legislature on a pro-gambling bill.
