Alabama Official Says No Delay In Tuesday's Vote

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's chief election official says Tuesday's vote will go on as planned despite a lawsuit filed by former Birmingham City Councilman Jimmy Blake.

Blake filed suit contending the Republican nominee for governor, Robert Bentley, shouldn't be on the ballot because he's violated campaign finance laws. Secretary of State Beth Chapman said Thursday the lawsuit has prompted lots of calls to her office by voters wondering if election will be delayed.

She says the election will go on as scheduled, and any request to stop it so late is unreasonable.

A spokeswoman for Bentley's campaign says Blake is longtime friends with Tuscaloosa developer Stan Pate, a former Bentley supporter turned critic.
