Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Forestry Commission says this week's rains weren't enough to end the wildfire threat across the state.
The commission said Friday it is leaving a fire alert in place in Alabama. Heavy rains this week will hold down the fire threat for a while, but the commission says the chances of wildfires will increase again without additional rain.
The entire state has been under a fire alert since Sept. 23. Officials say 787 wildfires have burned more than 8,000 acres of land in the last 30 days.
The commission recommends postponing all outdoor burning until conditions improve.
