Montgomery, AL – Turnout is reported to be strong at Alabama precincts where Republicans are expected to do well.
Parking lots were crowded and voting was brisk Tuesday at precincts in Shelby County and Montgomery where the GOP is heavily favored. Turnout reports were mixed elsewhere and rain and thundershowers in the forecast could be a factor.
With the governor's office atop a long ballot, turnout is expected to be good, but not as heavy as in a presidential election.
The secretary of state's office reports that slightly more than half of Alabama's voters traditionally turn out for an election for governor. The turnout in the last five elections for governor has ranged from nearly 51 percent to 58 percent.
