Washington, D.C. – Newly elected Alabama Republican Martha Roby of Montgomery is among 22 GOP members of the U.S. House who were tapped to help the party's transition as it takes control of the chamber.
The 34-year-old Roby ousted Democratic Congressman Bobby Bright in Alabama's 2nd congressional district. She is one of four first-term Republican House members picked for the party's transition team, which meets Monday night and Tuesday.
It's charged with drawing up new rules and smoothing the shift from minority to majority power in the House. Roby said Monday she will push for more substantive debate and transparency in House floor proceedings, as well as stronger controls on federal spending.
