IRS Trying To Refund $2.89 M In Alabama

Birmingham, AL – The Internal Revenue Service is looking to refund $2.89 million in undelivered checks in Alabama.

The IRS says 2,018 Alabama taxpayers are due one or more refund checks that could not be delivered because of mailing address errors.

IRS spokesman Dan Boone says the checks will be reissued once taxpayers provide a correct address.

In Alabama, the IRS says undelivered refund checks average $1,434 this year, compared with $1,183 last year.

Boone says taxpayers can put an end to lost, stolen or undelivered checks by choosing direct deposit when they file.
