Ala. Legislature Begins Ethics Special Session

Montgomery, AL – The newly elected Alabama Legislature has begun a rare special session on ethics and campaign finance issues with the outgoing governor.

The House and Senate convened about 4 p.m. Wednesday, with outgoing House Speaker Seth Hammett and outgoing Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom Jr. calling them to order. The first items of business include electing new leaders for the House and Senate now that Republicans have a majority in both houses.

Gov. Bob Riley is addressing the lawmakers about 6 p.m. to rally support for his seven ethics and campaign finance bills. He is Alabama's first outgoing governor since 1942 to call a special session of a newly elected Legislature.
