Alabama Governor's Ethics Bills Getting 1st Votes

Montgomery, AL – A bill to stop the hiding of campaign donations by transferring them from one political action committee to another has passed the first step in Gov. Bob Riley's special session to pass ethics legislation.

The bill by Republican Rep. Mac McCutcheon of Capshaw was approved by a House committee set up for the special session to consider the governor's ethics bills.

House and Senate committees were addressing the governor's seven-bill package Thursday.

The House committee also approved a bill to require legislators and other state officials to receive ethics training classes and another to prohibit legislators from hiding money in state agencies so that it can be spent on their pet projects.
