Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Legislature has given final approval to one of the governor's ethics bills, but a filibuster in the House is slowing work on the other measures in the governor's package.
The Senate voted unanimously Tuesday to give final approval to a bill banning ``pass-through pork'' that is hidden in the state budgets. The bill now goes to Gov. Bob Riley for signing into law.
The House has bogged down in a Democratic filibuster over the governor's bill to stop public employees from making payroll deductions for groups involved in political activities. The Republican majority tried to cut off the filibuster, but the 51-43 vote fell six votes short of the three-fifths margin they needed. Six Republicans voted against ending the filibuster and eight other Republicans didn't vote.
