Montgomery, AL – Alabama Gov. Bob Riley's office accepted 20 free Iron Bowl tickets from the University of Alabama while state legislators were preparing for a special session on ethics.
Riley said Monday the tickets were available to members of his staff during his eight years as governor, and he decided it would be ``disingenuous'' to change that during his last year.
It's a long-standing tradition for both Alabama and Auburn to provide tickets and free parking to state leaders for the football game. But the new ethics law would make it hard for schools to do that because of spending limits.
The Birmingham News reported that at least 28 officials turned down the 2010 Iron Bowl tickets. Some officials gave away the tickets.
