Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Legislature wrapped up its organizational session as new Republican Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey told senators she expects them to operate with decorum.
Ivey gave her first speech Tuesday as the presiding officer of the Senate since being sworn in as lieutenant governor on Monday.
Ivey told senators she expects them to cut out conversations and milling around on the floor while debate is going on.
Senators also bid formal farewell to 84-year-old Secretary of the Senate McDowell Lee. Lee is retiring after serving for 47 years as secretary of the Senate. His last day on the job was Tuesday.
Republican Sen. Gerald Dial of Lineville said Lee has devoted much of his life to the Alabama Senate.
