Montgomery, AL – Gov. Robert Bentley's new administration is asking many state agencies what they would do if the governor has to cut this year's General Fund budget 15 percent and next year's budget another 20 percent.
Bentley's finance director, David Perry, posed the question in a letter to department heads.
State court administrator Callie Dietz says the impact would be devastating for the court system. State Health Officer Don Williamson says he would have to cut back on restaurant and nursing home inspections and reduce the number of children served by the ALL Kids health insurance program.
Bentley says the General Fund's situation is dismal, but he hasn't got a timetable for deciding about cuts.
