Alabama Legislature Begins 2011 Session

Montgomery, AL – The 2011 session of the Alabama Legislature has started.

House Speaker Mike Hubbard called the House into session at noon and Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey started the session in the Senate at the same time.

Republican legislative leaders have been meeting with Republican Gov. Robert Bentley about his budget plans for fiscal 2012. But he will outline them for everyone in his first televised State of the State address at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Bentley says his speech will present a realistic account of the budget shortfalls facing state government. But he says he will also offer economic hope through proposals to create jobs.

The session starts one day after Bentley announced cuts for both of the current state budgets.
