Huntsville, AL – The president of the University of Alabama in Huntsville is stepping down.
David Williams announced his departure in an e-mail sent to friends and supporters on Monday. He says he and his wife are leaving the area next month, but he didn't say where they plan to go or what he intends to do.
Williams has been president since 2007, and last year he led the university through the fatal shooting of three professors during a faculty meeting on campus. He earns about $413,000 annually.
The University of Alabama System plans to name an interim president later this week.
