Gulf Boat Operators Say BP Slow On Claims

Orange Beach, AL – Boat operators on the Gulf Coast say BP has been slow to respond to their requests for compensation related to last year's oil spill.

One of the operators attending a meeting in Orange Beach on Thursday, Bryan Watts, said he sent BP a $20,000 claim for his 42-foot boat, which was damaged by pressure washers and a steel barge. He says he made the claim more than five months ago.

Orange Beach resident Mark Mead says he filed a $10,000 claim about eight months ago for his 19-foot boat that was damaged during a decontamination process.

He says BP representatives will only tell him his claim is under review.

A company spokesman, Justin Saia, said ``it would not be appropriate'' for the company to reveal individual claim information in public.
