Conecuh County Commission Approves Landfill Plans

Evergreen, AL – The Conecuh County Commission has approved plans for a controversial solid waste landfill near the town of Repton.

Mobile television station WKRG reports the Conecuh County Commission voted 3-2 Monday to approve plans for Conecuh Woods LLC to build the landfill on 5,100 acres in rural southwest Alabama. .

A citizens group called Citizens for a Clean Southwest Alabama has promised to continue to fight to stop the landfill.

The project also faces a temporary moratorium on landfills issued Feb. 23 by Gov. Robert Bentley.
