Montgomery, AL – Alabama's presidential preference primary in 2012 would be the second Tuesday in March according to a bill that has passed the Alabama House.
The House voted 99-1 for the bill that would move the presidential preference primaries for the Democratic and Republican parties from the first Tuesday in February to the second Tuesday in March.
The sponsor, Republican Rep. Steve Clouse of Ozark said the move was needed because both parties have adopted rules limiting the number of states that can hold February primaries.
The bill also moves primaries for other state offices in presidential election years from the first Tuesday in June to the March date. Elections for most state offices are held in a non-presidential election years and the state primary in those years would remain in June.
