Montgomery, AL – Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley has signed into law a bill that redraws the lines for Alabama's seven congressional districts.
The Legislature redrew the congressional districts based on population figures from the 2010 Census.
The new districts keep Alabama's seven members of the U.S. House of Representatives in the same districts. It also retains the state's one majority black district.
Bentley signed the legislation Wednesday. He praised the Legislature for approving the redistricting bill during its regular session. He said that action saved the state money by avoiding the need for a special session.
A redistricting plan for eight state school board districts is still pending and will be up for consideration on the Legislature's final day on Thursday.
