Tuscaloosa, AL – Alabama's last major shelter for tornado survivors has closed.
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said Monday the city's lone remaining shelter shut down on Friday.
A few people were still there, but Maddox says many of them were homeless before the storm. Most went to permanent shelters in other cities.
Maddox says other shelter residents were workers who came to Tuscaloosa to help with the cleanup.
Maddox says closing the shelter means the city is moving forward with its recovery.
