Montgomery, AL – A defense lawyer for indicted casino owner Milton McGregor is attacking the credibility of a state senator who worked with the FBI to record a casino lobbyist offering him $1 million a year to support pro-gambling legislation.
Defense attorney Bobby Segall portrayed state Sen. Scott Beason as a politically ambitious Republican who wants to bring down McGregor because he makes political contributions to Democrats.
Beason testified that was not part of his plan in contacting the FBI. He said he wanted to get to the bottom of what was happening in the Legislature.
Beason is the first witness in the trial of McGregor and eight others accused of buying and selling votes on pro-gambling legislation. He is expected to return to the witness stand Wednesday.
