Montgomery, AL – Gov. Robert Bentley says federal authorities have granted his request to extend the deadline for Alabama residents to register for federal disaster assistance after the April tornadoes.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency granted Alabama's request for a 21-day extension for individual assistance.
Authorities say the new registration deadline is July 18. They say the deadline to submit loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration has also been extended through July 18.
Officials say about 81,000 people in Alabama have registered for disaster assistance. FEMA has approved some $53 million in assistance for individuals and households.
