Gilley Says Ala. Senator Would Get $1M Annually

Montgomery, AL – Alabama casino promoter Ronnie Gilley says he and gambling executive Milton McGregor were willing to give a state senator $1 million annually for support of their casino legislation.

Gilley's testimony for the prosecution came Friday in Montgomery at the federal trial of McGregor and eight others charged in a bribery conspiracy involving gambling legislation at the Alabama Statehouse.

Gilley says he and McGregor were willing to give so much money to state Sen. Scott Beason because he's a Republican, and they believed he could help bring other members of his party to their side. Gilley was trying to get legislators to pass bills for his Country Crossing development in Dothan.

Beason went to the FBI with allegations of wrongdoing and was the first prosecution witness at the trial.
