Troy, AL – Troy University trustees have adopted a policy to ban all tobacco use on the campus, making it at least the third higher-education campus in Alabama to implement such a policy.
All tobacco products on Troy University campuses and teaching locations elsewhere will be banned starting Aug. 13, 2012.
John Dew, senior vice chancellor for student services and administration, said the new policy is part of a broader effort - the Trojan Fit Initiative - aimed at increasing health and wellness at the university.
The American Nonsmokers' Rights Foundation says there were at least 530 smoke-free colleges in the U.S. as of July 1. The foundation says that includes at least two in Alabama: Calhoun Community College in Huntsville and all Wallace Community College campuses.
