Hyundai Searching For 500 Workers For Ala. Plant

Montgomery, AL – Officials with Hyundai Heavy Industries, who are searching for 500 workers as the company prepares to open a plant in Montgomery, say they've received about 14,000 applications for the jobs.

About 100 employees have already been hired. Officials say about 80 of them have been in training in South Korea in preparation for the plant's scheduled November opening.

The facility, in an industrial park off Interstate 65, will manufacture heavy industrial electrical transformers.

Tony Wojciechowski, the company's Montgomery human resources manager, said the transformers can weigh one million pounds. He said they will be assembled, tested, disassembled and shipped from the Montgomery site.

Officials say hourly employees can make $18 to $24 an hour after their training is completed.
