Tuscaloosa, AL – The state's agriculture industry has taken a big hit as immigrant labor has dried up over fears about the state's strict new immigration law. The new law has some strict provisions requiring employers to verify the status of workers and harsh penalties for those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. Alabama Public Radio's Ryan Vasquez talked with Brett Hall, Deputy Commissioner for the state's Department of Agriculture and Industries. He says his department is hosting a web seminar series tomorrow to help farmers to wrap their head around some of the complicated language in the new law.
