Montgomery, AL – Democrats in the Alabama House have lashed out at the Legislature's Republican majority saying the GOP members have not done enough to create jobs since winning control of the Statehouse a year ago.
The House Democrats announced their agenda for the 2012 regular session during a news conference Tuesday in front of the Statehouse.
House Minority Leader Rep. Craig Ford of Gadsden said the priority for Democrats during the session beginning Feb. 7 will be to create new jobs and to help Alabama's working families. Alabama's unemployment rate was 9.8 percent in September.
Rep. Thomas Jackson said a major push for Democrats will be to eliminate Alabama's sales tax on groceries.
One bill Democrats will offer would mandate that state contracts go to Alabama businesses when possible.
