Birmingham, AL – The Republican leaders of the Alabama Legislature say job creation will be the top priority for the 2012 session.
House Speaker Mike Hubbard of Auburn and Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh announced their priorities Monday in Birmingham.
The two GOP leaders said they plan to reenact tax incentives for businesses that passed in the 2011 session and are now being challenged in court because the legislation started in the Senate rather than in the House. This time Hubbard said they will start in the House to avoid legal problems.
The two leaders said they will not consider any legislation that weakens Alabama's tough new immigration law. They said they want to make sure that newly created jobs go to real Alabama citizens. The 2012 session begins Feb. 7.
