Tuscaloosa, AL – Mississippi native and University of South Alabama faculty member Jesmyn Ward is the recipient of this year's National Book Award for Fiction. Ward's book "Salvage the Bones" looks at a family in a small coastal town in Mississippi in the days leading up to Hurricane Katrina. Ward spoke with Alabama Public Radio's Ryan Vasquez about her book and her surprise over receiving the National book Award.
