Sen. Waggoner To Lead Gingrich Campaign In Alabama

Birmingham, AL – The majority leader of the Alabama Senate, Jabo Waggoner of Vestavia Hills, has agreed to be chairman of Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign in Alabama.

Waggoner said he accepted Gingrich's invitation because he considers Gingrich the only candidate with the experience, leadership skills and courage needed to be president.

Waggoner says he's known the former speaker of the House since the early 1980s. Gingrich was a congressman from Georgia when he came to Alabama in 1984 to support Waggoner in an unsuccessful race for Congress. Waggoner said other members of the campaign leadership team will be announced soon.

Alabama's presidential preference primary is March 13.
