2 Tornadoes Confirmed In Alabama

Birmingham, AL – The National Weather Service has confirmed at least two tornadoes from the storms that roared across central Alabama.

Meteorologist Mark Rose says an EF-3 tornado hit the Clay and Centerpoint areas of Jefferson County, where two people were killed. He says an EF-2 tornado hit Tuscaloosa County. Rose said it will take survey teams a couple of days to visit all areas affected by the storms.

The Red Cross is still assessing damage in several counties, but it reports that so far, 211 homes were destroyed, 218 were heavily damaged, and 13 had minor damage. The heaviest damage was in Jefferson and Chilton counties.

Shelters have been set up at the Centerpoint First Baptist Church, the Clay Community Center and the First Methodist Church in Springville.
