Ex-HealthSouth Chief Faces New Sentencing Hearing

Montgomery, AL – Former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy will be back in Montgomery this week to try to convince a federal judge to give him a lighter sentence and possibly let him out of prison.

U.S. District Judge Mark Fuller has ordered Scrushy brought back to Montgomery from federal prison in Texas for the hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Scrushy and former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman were convicted of government corruption charges in 2006. Scrushy was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison.

A federal appeals court dropped two of the charges and ordered a new sentencing hearing.

Scrushy has already served more than four years in a federal prison and Fuller said in an earlier order that Scrushy's remaining sentence was within federal guidelines. Siegelman is free on appeal bond.
