Weather Officials Say 8 Tornadoes Hit Alabama

Clay, AL – The National Weather Service has increased the number of tornadoes that struck Alabama this week to eight.

Officials say at least two of the deadly Monday morning storms were EF3 with winds of up to 165 mph. One of those killed 16-year-old Christina Nicole Heichelbech in Jefferson County.

The other fatality was 81-year-old Bobby Frank Sims in Oak Grove, where an EF2 with winds of up to 115 mph struck.

Other counties hit include Chilton, Elmore, Perry, Sumter, St. Clair and Tuscaloosa. The first tornado touched down in Tuscaloosa County at 2:42 a.m. and the last hit Elmore County at 7:48 a.m.
