Coroner Says Gambling Defendant's Death Natural

Montgomery, AL – A coroner says gambling trial defendant Ray Crosby died from natural causes.

Montgomery County Coroner David Thrasher said Friday an autopsy by the state Department of Forensic Science showed Crosby died from hypertensive cardiovascular disease.

Crosby was found dead at his Montgomery home on Jan. 29. His retrial in Alabama's gambling corruption case was scheduled to start the next day. Crosby was accused of taking a bribe from casino owner Milton McGregor while working for the Legislature writing bills on gambling issues. That charge has now been dismissed by U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson.
