Pelham, AL – The deadlines for people to seek disaster unemployment assistance for damage from storms late last month in Chilton, Jefferson and Perry counties are fast approaching.
The deadline for Chilton and Jefferson counties is March 5, while Perry County's deadline is March 12. Anyone who became unemployed as a direct result of the Jan. 22 and 23 storms may qualify through the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations.
Survivors may also be eligible if they became the primary wage-earner because the head of the household died in the storm. Anyone who can't work because of an injury caused by the storms may also be eligible.
Free or reduced-cost legal services, including legal advice, counseling and representation, may be provided to low-income disaster victims through the Alabama Bar Association's volunteer attorney program.
